Añadir al carritoCondición: very good. With a foreword by Lord Macmillan. London : Edward Arnold, 1937. First edition. Orig. cloth binding. 205 pp. 19x13,5 cm. - This book offers a narrative exploring legal justice through human-centric storytelling. Published between the interwar period's rising global uncertainty, it reflects on the inefficiencies and moral challenges of legal systems. Against a backdrop of social change and legal reforms, the authors aim to illuminate how the law is perceived by those on its receiving end - clients, litigants, accused - presenting cases that engage broader debates about fairness, rights, and the human face behind legal proceedings. Both female authors were working at the University of London and Barrister-at-Law. Dorothy Knight Dix (1909-1970), later Dorothy Waddy, was a trailblazing British legal professional. She studied at University of Lausanne and University College London before being called to the Bar at Inner Temple in 1934. In January 1946 she became Recorder of Deal - one of the first women ever to serve as a judge in a jury trial in England - and in 1968 was appointed a County Court judge, only the second woman to do so after ElizabethLane DBE. Her contributions to public understanding of law were matched by her judicial milestones, making her a significant figure in modern British legal history. Condition : very good copy. Keywords : RECHT, English law books.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good+. Cloth-backed paper over boards, with b/w photo-illustration in gilt-stamped frame on upper board. Inscribed (the hand appears to be Sutherland's) on the FFEP: "To Our Philippe -- Douglas Fairbanks -- with the hope his years beyond his twenty-first may be as brave as were Philippe's. and with our affectionate good will," and signed by both authors. An interesting association copy from the library of Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., with his bookplate on the front paste-down. Dix was one of the silent era's legendary screenwriters, mainly associated with Famous Players-Lasky (Paramount). She also wrote novels, plays, and children's books. Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. (1909-2000), was an American actor (with more than 50 films to his credit, including the starring role in "Gunga Din") and a highly decorated naval officer of World War II. This item, likely, originally belonged to his father, Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. (1883-1939) who, along with Mary Pickford, was "Hollywood royalty" of its Golden Era. Both were prolific and powerful actors and producers, who co-owned Pickford-Fairbanks Studio and, along with Charles Chaplin and D. W. Griffith, co-founded United Artists. Their deep-rooted Hollywood family is connected to numerous giants of the entertainment industry.
