Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. 1st Edition. EXTREMELY RARE FIRST MODERN LIBRARY EDITION WITH DUST JACKET! **PART OF THE BOSTON BOOK CO. MODERN LIBRARY COLLECTION** The Plays Of Anton Tchekov. New York. First Modern Library Edition 1930 stated on copyright page. This is a very attractive copy of a rare Modern Library title. Bound in purple balloon cloth (spine #5) with Kent end papers. Very short-lived binding style, in use 1929 - Spring 1930. This gold-heavy design was planned before the 1929 crash, and was quickly deemed too expensive for Depression-era book publishing. The gold torchbearer was replaced with a blindstamped torchbearer, and in 1930, the gold tree was dropped. The book is VERY GOOD. Solid binding, bright gilt on cover and spine, matching purple topstain nice. Contents are clean with no owner's signature or other writing in text. GORGEOUS! The beautiful dust jacket is VERY GOOD- with chipping and darkened spine otherwise VERY clean and bright! 95 cent price present and bright on inside flap. The back of the dust jacket mentions 175 titles matching a 1930 First Modern Library Edition. Now protected in an archival-quality dust jacket protector. EXTREMELY HARD TO FIND FIRST MODERN LIBRARY EDITION IN DUST JACKET ESPECIALLY IN THIS CONDITION! This book is part of the Modern Library collection from the Boston Book Company which comprised 1,917 modern library volumes and was used to create A Descriptive Bibliography of The Modern Library: 1917 - 1970 by George M. Andes in 1989. Hardcover, 336 pages, ENG. edition, 300 x 245 x 30 mm, in Very Good Condition, illustrated in color / b/w. ISBN 9783775722957. Art in Iceland is as young as it is exciting. Considering the fact that Icelandic culture is strongly oriented toward language, the visual arts did not begin developing until the early twentieth century. This situation, which is remarkable for a Western country, may explain the unique nature of the contemporary art scene in Iceland. Even though international Conceptual Art continues to exercise a considerable influence and globalization is affecting this island in the North Atlantic, Icelandic art is nevertheless marked by a very specific creative energy and the pleasure of experimentation, and it has produced a large number of outstanding artists. Icelandic Art Today introduces fifty important protagonists of contemporary art , among them Finnbogi Pétursson, Gabríela Fridriksdóttir, Helgi Thorgils Frídjónsson, Icelandic Love Corporation, Katrín Sigurdardóttir, Margrét H. Blöndal, Ólafur Ólafsson + Libia Castro, Ragnar Kjartansson, Rúrí, Steingrímur Eyfjörd. 2010 g.…

Hardcover, 126 pages / seiten, ENG / D , 305 x 240 x 18 mm, NEW / NEU, illustrations in colour. ISBN 9783832190484. Sigmar Polke: The alchemist of German painting wields a magic wand and lenticular screen Sigmar Polke, born in 1941, is one of the most important artists of his generation and is considered the magician, the alchemist among painters. On the occasion of the presentation of the Rubens Prize of the City of Siegen in 2007, he staged an exhibition with the new block of works, the so-called "Lens Pictures". With the lens pictures, after the grids and transparent picture carriers, he draws another optical layer or surface of perception into the painting. The corrugated surface of the lenticular screen acts as a viewing surface that distorts the underlying image because the corrugated surface refracts light in different directions. The technically manufactured lenticular grid, as known from flip pictures, has an amazing 3D effect. However, Polke does not imitate the hyper-illusion of the technical image, but calculates with the inaccuracy and defectiveness of "his" lens grid and the specific aesthetic quality. This book is dedicated to lens images. The peculiarity lies in the fact that the artist collaborated on the layout and the sequence of images and published status reports of important paintings. It is precisely in this processual view of the works that it becomes clear which levels are important for the artist when viewing them 1000 g.…
