Former owner's inscription on front free endpaper verso: "H. Louis Duhring," dated 1931. Duhring was an American architect based in Philadelphia. Text is in French. Scarce. A very heavy book; for international shipping, the U.S. Postal Service requires that it be shipped by priority/expedited shipping. In Good Condition: lacking some leather, in particular over spine; front board is largely detached; boards are rubbed and scraped; title page and a few other pages are foxed; a few plates have minor soiling in margins; otherwise, clean and solid.

The two volumes illustrate details taken from Renaissance and Post-Renaissance buildings, ranging from Versailles to private houses. The first volume covers the period to the death of Louis XIV; the second covers the reigns of Louis XIV, XV and XVI. Vol. 2 front cover is detached; lacks Plate 99; Vol 1 is Good+ with scuffing and front hinge broken. Internally ranges from bright and clean to severe foxing.
