Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book explores a novel method to facilitate communication between ground stations during periods of high-altitude nuclear explosions or unusual solar activity. The author investigates the use of radio transmitters to decrease electron density in the D-region, which would otherwise amplify the effects of these disturbances. By analyzing ionospheric processes, conductivity of gases, and propagation of electromagnetic waves, the author derives equations that describe the nonlinear radial propagation of a powerful wave in an inhomogeneous medium, and obtains numerical solutions for its effects. The results show that a sufficiently powerful ground-based transmitter can generate significant change in the ionosphere, providing a channel of decreased electron density through which a second wave may propagate with greatly reduced attenuation. It concludes that this method has the potential to restore communication under these extreme conditions, highlighting the importance of the presented insights for maintaining reliable communication during times of disrupted ionospheric conditions. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book is a detailed analysis of the nonlinear electromagnetic effects produced by stimulated electron velocity oscillations in a weakly ionized collision-free magneto-ionic medium. By examining two first-order frequency waves, the author presents a new theoretical model describing the frequency-dependent reflection, refraction, and energy exchange that take place when a powerful pumping wave interacts with a much weaker signal wave within a medium such as the Earth's ionosphere. The model includes parameters allowing for varying electron temperatures, accounting for the effects previously neglected by prior models. This book offers a unique perspective that extends the possibilities for interpreting topside sounder ionogram data and developing novel parametric plasma amplifiers. Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a theoretical interpretation of the phenomena known as ionospheric cross modulation, where one radio wave propagating through a region of the ionosphere affects the propagation of a second wave. The author contributes a thorough investigation of the subject from a microscopic perspective, delving into the velocity distribution functions of the ionospheric electrons and the resulting impact on absorption coefficients. The book offers a review of previous research, extending upon the elementary theory and validating through numerical calculations. Insights are presented on the departure from Maxwellian velocity distribution and its impact on transfer modulation and phase lag. The study serves to enhance our understanding of the fundamental processes in radio wave interaction and the properties of the ionospheric regions where such interactions occur. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book investigates sporadic E, a layer of the ionosphere that has captivated scientists for decades. The author analyzes the sporadic E using data from vertical-incidence ionospheric sounders and VHF oblique-incidence paths. The sporadic E exhibits geographical and diurnal variations. By comparing its temporal and geographical distribution, along with its magnetic field and solar cycle dependence, the author explores several proposed mechanisms for its formation. This book is significant because it integrates and extends existing knowledge, providing a unified description of this ionospheric phenomenon and a framework for future studies.
