Berater war Jacob Burckhardt, mit dem sie ab 1852 einen Briefwechsel führte und den sie zwei Jahre später traf. Sie schrieb u.a. den hist. Roman "Lorbeer und Cypresse. Romant.-hist. Bilder aus Polens Freiheitskämpfen" (1864) und, wohl auf Anregung Burckhardts, die in baseldt. Versen verfassten "Bilder aus dem Basler Familienleben" (1867, 21901). Mit diesem Werk, in dem sie das behagl. Kleinstadtleben jener Zeit mit feinem Humor schildert, erlangte sie Anerkennung. K. war mit den Dichtern Gottfried Keller, Heinrich Leuthold und Hans Christian Andersen befreundet, die in ihrem Haus verkehrten» (HLS) 1100 gr.
