Originally published in London in 1863, the first edition sold out at once. A second or revised edition quickly followed, but was recalled from sale by Therry because of strong criticisms in Australia about the opinions he had expressed, such as about the transportation system, the administration of justice, and the personalities of judges. The present facsimile of the second edition makes Therry's writings more accessible, and also commemorates the 150th anniversary in 1974 of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, of which Therry was a senior judge. Introduction by J. M. Bennett, a councillor of the Royal Australian Historical Society (RAHS).
