We therefore record, with regret, that the scientific thought of the last few decades appears to have had little influence on this author's taxonomic assessments, and that his systematics to the last were little advanced from those of Père Heude who, in the 1880s, had five specimens of Sika Deer from the island of Formosa, and described five species.".
