Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. 1967 1st edition detailing the extraordinary life of William Alexander Madocks MP (1773-1828), a visionary Georgian entrepreneur, agricultural improver and romantic planner who reshaped the landscape of North West Wales. He is best known for his monumental engineering feats, including reclaiming thousands of acres of land from the sea and founding the towns of Tremadog and Porthmadog - his grand plan was to improve road and communication links to create a faster transit route between London and Ireland via the Llyn Peninsula. Hardback bound in green cloth with gilt lettering on the spine, in the original unclipped blue dust wrapper with green and black text illustrated with a grey image illustrating the coastal reclamation works. In very good condition, ends of spine and corners slightly bumped and faded, top edge lightly dusted, otherwise very bright, tight and clean, signed by the author. Dust wrapper also in very good condition, worn at edges and marked along top edge. Madocks was a charismatic London-raised MP of Welsh descent who dedicated his immense energy, and eventually his fortune, to modernising infrastructure in Gwynedd. The 276 pages, copiously illustrated with black and white plates, maps, plans and poster images, cover Madocks's dramatic struggles against nature, the sudden speculative financial crashes that left him overextended, and his eventual retreat to France, where he died in 1828. Signed by Author(s).…
