The Brenninkmeyer collection of bone ship models was, at the time of the sale, widely recognized as the largest collection of its type ever to come to auction, with the next-largest holdings residing at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. Index of artists includes James Edward Buttersworth, Antonio Jacobsen, John Stobart, Anton Otto Fischer, Reynolds Beal, Frederic Schiller Cozzens, Margaret Fitzhugh Browne, William Pierce Stubbs, Clarkson Frederick Stanfield, Charles Henry Gifford, Gordon Grant, James Hamilton, Eric Erskine Campbell Tufnell, James Gale Tyler, after J.M.W. Turner, after Antoine Roux, and many others.
