Annotations in manuscript ink on the verso identify the setting as the Falmouth Playhouse in Massachusetts. An unmarried, high-strung minister's daughter is caught in an increasingly heated affair with an undisciplined young doctor who grew up next door. A revision of Williams' 1948 play "Summer and Smoke," the play made its Broadway premiere at the Morosco Theatre. 10 x 8 inches. Near Fine.

Based on Howard Sackler's 1968 Pulitzer Prize, Tony Award, and New York Drama Critics' Circle Award-winning play, a fictionalized account of the life of boxing champion Jack Johnson. Jones, in his first starring role, and Jane Alexander, in her first film credit, were both nominated for Oscars, reprising their lead roles from the Broadway production.
