Born in the rural Lafayette County community of Paris, Mississippi, Theora Hamblett (1895-1977) is now recognized as one the state's premier twentieth century artists with her distinctive primitive folk art style and outward simplicity belying abstract religious imagery frequently displayed within the context of rustic Mississippi scenes.
