Hardcover. Condición: Near Fine. 1st Edition. The Young Folks' Treasury: Golden Hours With the Poets (New York: The University Society, Inc., 1909) is Volume XI in the famous twelve-volume juvenile literature series edited by Hamilton Wright Mabie with Edward Everett Hale as associate editor. This early printing features the cla…ssic Art Nouveau-influenced cloth binding in brown with black and green pictorial stamping, ornate gilt endpaper designs, and a vibrant color frontispiece ('The Pied Piper of Hamelin'). The volume collects verse by major English and American poets including Shakespeare, Keats, Shelley, Wordsworth, Longfellow, Tennyson, Browning, Dickens, and many others. Organized thematically for young readers. This copy is clean and structurally sound, showing only light rubbing to the spine ends, mild corner wear, and gentle uniform age toning to text pages; binding remains firm with no writing or loose gatherings. A handsome and well-preserved example of early 20th-century illustrated juvenile literature and decorative publishing. Hamilton Wright Mabie (1846-1916) was an American essayist, critic, and editor known for his influential work in children's literature and for promoting accessible literary culture during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A longtime associate editor of The Christian Herald and a prolific writer of literary introductions and anthologies, Mabie devoted much of his career to shaping wholesome, beautifully produced books for young readers. His editorial work on The Young Folks' Treasury helped establish the series as a staple of early American family libraries.

Hardcover (Original Cloth). Condición: Very Good. No Dust Jacket. First Edition. publication number XIV of The Manx Society for Publication of National Documents & one of only 300 copies printed; pre-title page of Manx Society giving date established (1858), logo, volume number, & date of publication, followed by list of officer…s of the society. tissue-guarded b/w. frontis. illustration showing kirks & five further similar plates throughout the book. The importance of monuments and inscriptions in the illustration of local history cannot be too strongly maintained ; but for these, how many persons and events worthy of remembrance would have remained unknown. There are few monuments in the Isle of Man with any pretension to artistic taste. The inscriptions recorded by Mr. Feltham are in many instances only a bare memorial of name, date, and age, yet these alone will be found useful to the future historian in recording the genealogy of families, as well as a record of the patronymics of the country. Mr. Feltham, during his stay in the Island, resided in Ramsey, and commenced his work in the parish of Maughold proceeding on his way southward ; it has been thought desirable to commence in the regular order in which the various parishes stand on the records. The inscriptions appear to be taken in the order as they lie in the graveyard, by which the names of the various families are in many instances brought in close proximity. The usual custom of adding the wife's surname tends materially to connect links by which many Manx families are united. Supplement to latter part of the book. 15 - page appendix relating to the Manx society. Binder's small label inside rear cover. Size: Octavo (standard book size). 132 + 15 pages.
