Añadir al carritohardcover. Condición: Good. First Edition. The Creevey Papers: A Selection from the Correspondence & Diaries of the Late Thomas Creevey, M.P., Thomas Creevey (Edited by Sir Herbert Maxwell) â" First Edition Publication: London, John Murray, 1903 Formatting: 8vo, 2 vols., pp. xxii, 342; x, 372. Condition Report: Good. The origina…l publisherâs green cloth bindings remain structurally sound and unsophisticated, though they exhibit expected shelf-wear commensurate with their age. Both volumes display rubbing to the extremities, minor fraying along the spine joints, and gentle bumping to the corners. The boards show occasional scuffs and handling marks, yet the gilt titling to the upper boards remains remarkably bright. The ornate gilt paper labels on the spines are complete but have darkened over time, showing edge-rubbing and minor surface wear. Internally, the text-blocks are firmly bound with their traditional untrimmed fore and lower edges. The pages show typical mild age-toning and scattered foxing, primarily localised to the preliminary leaves and adjacent to the portrait plates, while the majority of the text remains clean and highly legible. Catalogue Note: First edition. The text is complete in two volumes, as issued, and is augmented with numerous portrait plates, each retaining its original tissue guard, depicting key figures of the era. The text was printed by William Clowes and Sons, Limited. While The Creevey Papers went through multiple later printings and editions to meet public demand, discovering a true 1903 first edition in its original cloth binding, without institutional rebinding or the heavy structural failures typical of two-volume sets of this weight, is becoming increasingly uncommon on the open market. The Creevey Papers offers a deliciously candid and indispensable window into the corridors of power and the drawing rooms of high society during the late Georgian and Regency eras. Thomas Creevey, a shrewd Whig politician and an insatiable gossip, documented the political intrigues, social scandals, and monumental events of his day with unparalleled wit and sometimes startling indiscretion. From unvarnished critiques of the Prince Regent to firsthand accounts of the aftermath of Waterloo, this collection of diaries and correspondence, meticulously curated by Sir Herbert Maxwell, remains one of the most entertaining and historically significant personal records of nineteenth-century Britain.
