Añadir al carritoCloth. Condición: Good. No Jacket. First Edition. Hardback. Slight foxing to edge. Slight wear to corners of cloth. Sunned spine. Blue cloth with gilt lettering. Photographs by Edwin Smith. Drawings by Ronald Saxby. An introduction is necessary only to explain that this collection of newly commissioned essays is not intended to be a comprehensive history of the City of London, nor is it a guide book. The intention is to evoke the flavour and atmosphere of the City for those who work and those who visit there. Inevitably there are omissions. The City covers a small area but its history and traditions have already inspired thousands of books, and as new material comes to light, no doubt will inspire many more. But historians rightly require greater space than is provided here if they are to pass on more than a summary of their findins. So this volume concentrates mainly on the City as it is today, or was in the recent past. I hope it may be acceptable both as a souvenir for those who have spent their working lives in the Square Mile and would not wish to have spent them elsewhere, and as a stimulus to those who so far have not troubled overmuch to become intimately acquainted with their day-time environment. Illustrated. 237 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.).…
