Book has the beginnings of some brown spottings on the outside of the pages. Also there is a touch of wear at the head of the spine. Interior of book appears clean & binding is tight. No apparent underlining, no highlighting, no bookplates, no owner names, no remainder marks, no folded or dogeared pages, no smudges. Dust jacket is protected in an archival quality protective cover. Dj has some wear at the head of the spine as well. There are some pale tan spots on the interior flaps of the dust jacket. Numerous small internal B&W hand-drawn illustrations, though the accompanying plates were sold in 19 large (folio), string-tied portfolios from 1904 to 1911, said large folios NOT included here. Both volumes stamped to title page "Presented by the Trustees of the British Museum." And both volumes show to front free endpapers the small bookplates of Christopher Rowe. However, it appears these Rowe bookplates were used to replace larger, original bookplates, since removed, indicating Mr. Rowe may not have been the original recipient of this presentation. These books show NO sign of any lending-library history. Both volumes all original, "good" to "very good," snugly bound in original brown endpapers and original pebbled brown cloth with gilt titles to spine, though with the board corners poking through. Vol. I also shows a half-inch tear to top of spine. The rear interior hinge of Vol. I is a bit unsightly from an old repair (See scan.) Fitzgerald. A nice set of the first three issue, rarely found with the wraps in nice and intact condition.

Contains [xxxiii] [corrections leaf] 724; 866 printed pages of text with numerous monochrome text illustrations throughout the two volumes. Belonging to Henry Lehman, founder of Lehman Brothers financial services, with his name to the top of each title page. Neatly repaired fraying of the cloth to the spine edges, rear hinge to volume II is cracked, corners worn through to the boards, lots of ink and pencil notes to the margins, probably by Lehman. Near fine in lightly tanned wraps and a touch bumped at the corners. Inscribed on the cover by Allen Ginsberg to Barry Miles: "For Miles Better Books from Shig + Allen." Ginsberg, who was closely connected to City Lights Bookstore in San Francisco, which was managed by Shig Murao, inscribes this little magazine to Miles, who worked at Better Books in London, a spiritual sister store of sorts to City Lights. Miles created the International Poetry Incarnation, which featured Ginsberg, following their meeting at a poetry reading at Better Books. Miles would go on to author books about The Beatles, Bob Dylan, and Pink Floyd, and a bibliography of Ginsberg. A magazine featuring contributions from Ed Sanders, Diane Wakoski, Ted Enslin, and others. A wonderful association copy inscribed by Ginsberg to his friend and bibliographer.
