Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. 1st Edition. Printed in Great Britain. Date on the title page. First Printing. Editor's Preface, Footnotes, Appendix; [x], 166 pages, plus Index and colophon [2]. The dark blue cloth is excellent, with gilt lettering clear on the spine. The interior is creamy-bright, fresh and crisp; however, please NOTE: My father, who taught philosophy for nearly half a century, left pale penciling on about a dozen pages. The original dust jacket is unclipped ($4.25), with a lightly-sunned spine and a few tiny chips; no text affected. [Please see my seven images of the actual book.] "This book sets out Austin's conclusions in the field to which he directed his main efforts for at least the last ten years of his life. Starting from an exhaustive examination of his already well-known distinction of performative utterances from statements, Austin here finally abandons that distinction, replacing it by a more general Theory of 'illocutionary forces' of utterances which has important bearings on a wide variety of philosophical problems."---(from the flap) As with every book from my father's collection, tipped-in at the front is the small, attractive, acid-free bookplate pictured on my homepage. All books are wrapped with special care and are shipped promptly with tracking; international sales sent via global priority, also with tracking.…
