This vintage, large 8vo pulp magazine is intact, complete, "good-plus." would grade higher save for two small holes to top left of front wrap near the letter "f" -- they don't penetrate into the text block, but look almost as though someone contemplated punching holes for moun…ting or storage in a binder. Marvelous color cover illustration credited to BOTH H.W. McCauley and J. Allen St. John, which is unusual. This issue also includes Robert Leslie Bellem's "Robots Can't Lie" and William P. McGivern's "Doorway of Vanishing Men." Calling Burroughs' 36-page story "Goddess of Fire" a "novel" is a bit of a stretch -- in fact it's the second of four interlinking stories (following "Slaves of the Fish Men", preceding "The Living Dead" and "War on Venus" -- published sequentially in Fantastic Adventures 1941-42, later fixed up into the Carson Napier science fiction / fantasy novel "Escape on Venus" (1946.) Reduced from $36. Cover credited to H.W. McCauley and J. Allen St. John / Interior B&W illustrations by J. Allen St. John (ilustrador).

Red, blue and white illustrated paper covers have a few small nicks to edges and light overall age toning, mild edge wear, and surface scuffing. Previous owner's name in pen at the upper right corner of the front cover. Interior pages lightly age toned but otherwise unmarked. Published during the height of the American popular song and dance orchestra era, the score reflects the period's crossover appeal to both pianists and accordionists, with a specially arranged additional chorus for piano accordion by Pietro Deiro, one of the most influential accordion performers and arrangers of the early twentieth century. Front cover features a stylized Art Deco portrait of a woman against a bold red ground by Weldy Baer. Baer was an American commercial illustrator active primarily in the 1920s and 1930s, best known for sheet music cover designs produced for major Tin Pan Alley publishers, characterized by streamlined Art Deco styling and idealized female figures. An advertisement for Al Lewis's songwriting manual From Rhymes to Riches appears on the back cover.
