Hardcover. Condición: Poor. No Jacket. Frontispiece (portrait), xvi, Pp. 5-604, as is called for. Bookseller's label to back paste-down (The Burrows Brothers Company, Cleveland, OH). A single page typescript containing chapter like headings, along with page numbers, has been laid in. Additionally, a newspaper article that is clo…se to contemporary with the publishing of this book has been tipped in on front printer's blank. The article contains a marriage notice for Maria Monk's daughter, as well as a brief historical note. The front paste-down admits to some damage and the front free endpaper is missing. This volume is bound in original green cloth, with fairly bright but admittedly rubbed gilt lettering and decorations to spine. Exterior admits to heavy wear. Hinges cracked and binding a bit shaken, though largely intact. An early gathering of pages, including the frontispiece and title-page, is completely detached from the volume. Another leaf - from the table of contents - is also completely detached and admits to heavy, albeit unobtrusive tears and chips to extremities. Minor, unobtrusive spots to a small number of leaves, as well as minor pencil to same, and browning to paper, with several short tears and small chips to extremities of a small number of leaves. In the normal course of events, this would be considered a "reading" copy, but with the additional item tipped in and the older typescript, this is a unique copy of this title, now scarce on the open market.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This compelling autobiography reveals the journey of a young woman who was abandoned by her mother, scorned by society, and ultimately found redemption through the grace of God. The author's life is a poignant exploration of the harsh realities of poverty, abuse, and societal prejudice… in mid-1800s America. Through it all, she grapples with her own inner demons and comes to terms with the role of faith in overcoming adversity. Along the way, she encounters a cast of complex characters, including sympathetic nuns, fierce nuns, and a Jesuit priest who guides her spiritual growth. The book offers a unique glimpse into the challenges faced by women and orphans in 19th century America, and the power of redemption to transform even the most troubled lives. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
