G+.**The family of Savile was one of the most, if not the most, illustrious in the west riding of the county of York. Henry Savile (1642 1687) was an English courtier, diplomat and Member of Parliament. In 1680 he was appointed Vice-Chamberlain of the Household. He was subsequently an envoy at Paris, where he died in 1687. He was a close friend of John Wilmot, 2nd Earl of Rochester.
