Añadir al carritoHardback. Condición: Very Good Plus. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. First Edition Thus. 1964. Presumed first edition. v, 130pp. and a frontispiece portrait. George Buchanan (1506-1582) was a Scottish historian and humanist scholar. His ideology of resistance to royal usurpation gained widespread acceptance during the Scottish Reformation. His treatise "De Jure Regni apud Scotos", published in 1579, discussed the doctrine that the source of all political power is the people, and that the king is bound by those conditions under which the supreme power was first committed to his hands, and that it is lawful to resist, even to punish, tyrants. The importance of Buchanan's writings is shown by the suppression of his work by James VI and the British legislatures in the century following their publication. It was condemned by act of parliament in 1584, and burned by the University of Oxford in 1664 and 1683. The present edition has been translated, with commentary, by Duncan H. MacNeill. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The book is in excellent condition and the contents are tight and clean with partial browning to the free endpapers. There is no inscription. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with soiling visible on the back of the wrapper. The corners and spine ends are rubbed with light bumping to the spine ends. There is a tear of about 1/2" with a surrounding crease on the top rear spine corner and a tear of about 1/4" on the top front edge. The wrapper is in an easily removed clear plastic protective cover.…
