First and only edition of this volume of poems by John B. Drayton: he later published a poetic version of the…Pilgrim's Progress (1821). He was a resident of Cheltenham, from where the preface is dated (5 April 1813), but he was clearly well-connected, with a substantial list of subscribers headed by the Duke of Kent (father of Queen Victoria) and Edward Jenner, pioneer of vaccination, who lived at Berkeley, not far from Cheltenham. One of the poems is in memory of J.D. Worgan, whose doctor Jenner had been, and who had also written poems, before his untimely death in 1809 at the age of only 19 - Hayley had edited the posthumous volume. Despite being published in London, this was actually printed by the Bannatynes in Edinburgh, as the colophon at the end shows. Jackson, Annals, p. 270.
