Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Minor Notes Vol. 1 features the work of three poets. Published in 1837, Poems by a Slave is one of the lesser-known works by George Moses Horton (1798-1883), once popularly known as the 'black bard of North Carolina.' Visions of the Dusk (1915) is an American prose poem known for its formal innovation by Fenton Johnson, a poet, essayist, editor and educator from Chicago. Georgia Douglas Johnson was the most widely read black woman poet in the US during the first three decades of the 20th century. Bronze: A Book of Verse (1922) was introduced with a foreword by W. E. B. Du Bois.

Añadir al carritoOffered here is a rare opportunity to acquire resource materials from the private library of the late David L. Hack, a nationally recognized authority on Civil War history. His meticulously curated collection has been featured in The New York Times and acquired in part by the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, Virginia. Selections from his collections have traveled in major exhibitions around the world and have been cited extensively in scholarly works, books, and academic papers. Each item reflects Hack's lifelong dedication to historical accuracy, preservation, and scholarship. This collection has been carefully maintained over decades and represents an invaluable resource for historians, collectors, and Civil War enthusiasts alike. Good/Very Good. A copy that has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged. William H. Herndon aspired to write a faithful portrait of his friend and law partner, Abraham Lincoln, based on his own observations and on hundreds of letters and interviews he had compiled for the purpose. Even more import ant, he was determined to present Lincoln as a man, rather than a saint, an d to reveal things that the prevailing Victorian conventions said should be left out of the biography of a great national hero. A variety of obstacles kept Herndon from writing his book, however, and not until he found a collaborator in Jesse W. Weik did the biography begin to take shape. It finally appeared in 1889, to decidedly mixed reviews. Though controversial from the outset, Herndon's Lincoln nonetheless established itself as a classic, and remains, as Don E. Fehrenbacher declared, "the most influential biography of Lincoln ever published." This new edition restores the original text, includes two chapters added in the revised (1892) edition, and traces the history of how Herndon and his collaborator, after many delays, produced one of the landmark biographies in American letters. Extensive annotation affords the reader a detailed look at the biography's sources.
