Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. STEP INTO OLD NEW YORK-AND DISCOVER A VANISHED WORLD THROUGH THE EYES OF A CHILD.Horse-drawn carriages, bustling streets, family traditions, and the excitement of growing up bring nineteenth-century New York vividly to life.A charming children's historical classic filled with warmth, discovery, and the unforgettable atmosphere of another age.A Little Girl in Old New York by Amanda M. Douglas takes readers on an enchanting journey into the everyday life of nineteenth-century America, when New York was rapidly growing and changing, yet childhood was still shaped by close-knit families, neighborhood friendships, cherished traditions, and a very different rhythm of life.Seen through the experiences of a young girl discovering the world around her, Old New York becomes much more than a historical setting. Its streets, homes, shops, schools, celebrations, fashions, and horse-drawn carriages create a wonderfully detailed portrait of childhood in another era. Small adventures and ordinary moments reveal how children lived, learned, played, and gradually began to understand the larger world beyond their homes.Amanda M. Douglas had a special gift for blending history with engaging storytelling. Rather than presenting the past as a collection of dates and facts, she brings it to life through family relationships, conversations, social customs, and the curiosity of a growing child. The result is a warm and accessible work of classic children's historical fiction that allows young readers to experience American history from a personal perspective. At the heart of the story are timeless themes of family, friendship, childhood, responsibility, kindness, curiosity, and growing up. The heroine encounters the expectations and traditions of her time while discovering new people, new places, and new ideas. Through her experiences, readers glimpse both the comforts and limitations of nineteenth-century family life and the fascinating transformation of one of America's most famous cities.Perfect for readers who enjoy classic children's books, historical fiction for children, vintage children's literature, American history, family stories, and coming-of-age classics, A Little Girl in Old New York combines an engaging story with a richly detailed picture of life in the past. The novel also offers a fascinating window into New York City history. Long before skyscrapers, automobiles, and crowded subway trains defined Manhattan, the city was filled with brick houses, local shops, churches, markets, pedestrians, and horse-drawn vehicles. Douglas captures this changing urban landscape while keeping the story focused on the people who called it home. For modern readers, this classic provides the pleasure of discovering how dramatically everyday life has changed-and how much childhood itself remains recognizable. Curiosity, friendship, family affection, excitement over special occasions, and the desire for independence connect the heroine's world with our own despite the generations separating them.A Little Girl in Old New York is an excellent choice for families, young readers exploring historical fiction, homeschool collections, students interested in nineteenth-century American life, and adults who love beautifully nostalgic children's classics.Travel back to nineteenth-century New York, walk its lively streets, enter its welcoming homes, and experience a remarkable city through the wonder and curiosity of childhood.Rediscover Amanda M. Douglas's charming historical classic and enter a world where every street, tradition, and new Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.…
