Trade paperback. Presumed first edition/first printing. [4], 239, [1] p. Illustrations. This book tells the story of building a business in America 'only to see it all get fleeced by corporate takeovers moving to off shore sourcing. This is a critique of textile making here and abroad, with particular reference to wastewater pol…lution. Excerpts from a review posted on line: " Doug Hoschek self-published a book, "Polar Pollution: Outdoor Memoirs of Polarfleece, " in which he takes to task some of the major apparel companies for abandoning the U.S. for plants in Asia. Doug Hoschek worked 45 years in the textile and garments industry, contributing at one point to the development of the insulating material Polarfleece. Hoschek's book is part history, [and] part memoir. [An evident theme is] Hoschek's disappointment with the migration of textiles and garment manufacturing from the United States. Hoschek.argues that the lack of environmental regulation provided a lure for the apparel industry, which both depends heavily on water for production and pollutes water in the process. Asia gained the bulk of the globe's apparel production, Hoschek says, but also a world of environmental damage. "My book is written to expose this pollution for what it is and how it happened, " Hoschek said. "The goal of the book (is) to bring back manufacturing of textiles to the USA to create jobs, assure clean textile products and to save the lives of hundreds of thousands.in China because of water pollution of which a substantial part comes from textile dyeing and textile fiber making of polyester." Very good. No dust jacket. Signed by author. Business card size ephemera on book laid in. Bottom edge has some soiling.

Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Polar Pollution is a comprehensive story written by the author Doug Hoschek from his forty plus years of marketing and developing outdoor textile fabrics. Called out on the title cover "Outdoor memoirs of Polarfleece." The books most important topics are a comparison of developing and manufa…cturing outdoor textile materials in the United State by American workers and owners vs the off shoring of todays brands that do no manufacturing in the United States of the same outdoor textile materials and finished products. Catastrophic water pollution in Asia, especially China has created death, destruction and a global call from places like the United Nations for change. Teaming with an ngo in China, Green Camel Bell, the author marries his expertise including being the creator of Polarfleece to the activist progress of brave citizens in China. A colorful memoir of how the textiles and brands were created finds passion of the outdoors married to a small business until the off shoring allowed investor greed to pollute water and air that today daily reaches the shores of the west coast of the United States. Building the authors case of why are these iconic outdoor brands voicing sustainable leadership when in fact they are the cause of the water and air pollution in the United States and China and other parts of Asia. The book itself with many sub headings to help the reader through each chapter surely offers an insight that anyone carrying a backpack wants to read while enjoying outdoor recreation. Being in the attack on 911, Doug's experience presents a view of the attack most have not heard or would imagine themselves working through. Spending almost a half hour in a train tunnel going into the attack area under the Hudson River and then safely getting out. That area of New York City, Manhattan is an island with only tunnels and bridges to enter and exit. Born and raised there during his youth, the author used his knowledge and stayed cool.
