Apart from some tiny rubs to the very tips of the bottom corners this is an 'As New' copy. Looks Unread. No Inscriptions or Marks. 160 pp. Illustrated throughout in colour. "In 1949 P…aul Robeson's passport was illegally cancelled and he was barred from travelling in the Americas on the basis that he was considered a threat to United States security by means of supporting African anti-colonial movements. Outrage ensued somewhat within the far left of the US, but mostly from overseas. Entire governments threw their weight into the building pressure which was the 'Let Paul Robeson Sing! ' Campaign. In 2001 the National Museum and Gallery Cardiff held a 'Let Paul Robeson Sing! Exhibition. Visitors to the exhibition were encouraged to write comments on the walls, engage with the exhibition's large pyramid, broken chains, life-size image of Paul Robeson, and a shrine to other individuals who have also had their voices suppressed. The sponsoring organizers would then also collaborate with educational and community organizations to respond to the life of Paul Robeson through art, a tradition which continues today. These unique interactions had two results. First, various murals, exhibition extensions, and musical works were created, some of which are still accessible and or used today. Second, documentation of each exhibition has been entirely unique and thus THIS BOOK "Breaking Chains Making Links. Responses to the Life of Paul Robeson" was published to accompany these major exhibitions and to contribute to both the telling and the making of this history. Quite scarce.
