Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the geological history of the Atlantic Coastal Plain near Hopewell, Virginia, a region rich with geological formations dating back to the Cretaceous period. The author meticulously examines the stratigraphy and structure of the area, uncovering evidence of significant tectonic activity that shaped the landscape over millions of years. The book focuses on the Dutch Gap fault zone, a series of reverse faults that have created a complex interplay of uplifted and downwarped layers of sediment. Through detailed mapping, power augering, and trench excavations, the author sheds light on the timing and extent of these geological events, offering insights into the forces that have sculpted the Coastal Plain over vast periods. By analyzing the distribution of sedimentary rocks, fossils, and geological structures, the author unravels a fascinating narrative of ancient seas, fluctuating sea levels, and the powerful influence of tectonic forces. This book offers a compelling look into the dynamic processes that have shaped the landscape of the Coastal Plain, and its findings contribute to our understanding of the region's geological history.
