The tournament was won by the Austrian opening theory expert, Ernst Grünfeld, but the field also included such giants of chess history as the future world champion Alexander Alekhine, Aron Nimzowitsch, Efim Bogoljubov, Savielly Tartakower, as well as Károly Sterk, who represented Hungary.
