Añadir al carritoSoft cover. Condición: Very Good. Original publisher's beige paper pamphlet. Text printed in black ink. 6" x 9 1/4." Thirty pages, complete. Pages are very clean and intact except for moderate wrinkling (mostly at top edges), some darkening at top and bottom edges on front, and some chipping and closed tears along edges of front cover. A Very Good copy. Published "in a small edition, for private circulation among the friends of the Author." This speech was first published in July 1873 in the Historical Magazine. Charles Devens, Jr. (1820-1891) was an American lawyer, jurist, and politician who served as a Union general during the Civil War. In his address, Devens pays tribute to Union General George Meade (1815-1872) and the Army of the Potomac and discusses the pivotal Battle of Gettysburg. Devens commends the character and ability of Meade while giving some brief biographical information about the esteemed general. Devens mourns the recent passing of Meade as well as the dissolution of the Army of the Potomac. At the time of his speech, Devens says that only four members of the Army of Potomac still survive. Much of Devens's speech is a chronological retelling of the Battle of Gettysburg which he intersperses with praise for Meade and the Army of the Potomac.
