Er hat dadurch eine höchst traurige Berühmtheit erlangt, daß er sich in seiner Praxis der rohsten und barbarischsten Entbindungsmethoden bediente und sein Verfahren in eignen Schriften zu rechtfertigen bestrebt war. Schon seine 1740 zu Straßburg erschienene Inauguralschrift handelte von der Nothwendigkeit der scharfen Instrumente in der Geburtshülfe, seine Thätigkeit aber wird am besten durch die zuverlässige Angabe beleuchtet, daß er im Jahre 1753 unter 61 Geburten 29 Mal scharfe Instrumente in Anwendung zog, und daß von den Müttern 10 starben. Die Sache war so arg, daß sogar die Gerichte ihn zur Rechenschaft zogen und eine Anfrage bei der Universität Helmstädt veranlaßten, welche seine Arbeiten sehr nachtheilig beurtheilte.
