Umberto Cassuto, also known as Moshe David Cassuto (16 September 1883 - 19 December 1951), was an Italian historian, a rabbi, and a scholar of the Hebrew Bible and Ugaritic literature, in the University of Florence, then at the University of Rome La Sapienza. When the 1938 anti-Semitic Italian racial laws forced him out from this position, he immigrated to Erets Israel and taught at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Produced by John Wilson and Son's University Press in Cambridge, Massachusetts and printed on French-folded pages joined in tandem, now divided. Rubáiyát over unnumbered pages carrying the 101 quatrains of Edward FitzGerald's version enriched with lovely illustrations around the quatrains by Florence Lundborg, all of the other leaves have an elaborate border. Ink name dated 1944 to the second front end sheet, light rubbing to the corners and in Very Good clean condition. Member of the P.B.F.A. Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám.

The Rubáiyát has unnumbered pages comprising 75 quatrains enriched with 17 full-page single-sided and vignette monochrome illustrations throughout by William George Stirling. Stated first edition to the title page and stamped number 427 of a limited edition of 1000 (?) copies, colophon for Fraser & Neave Ltd., Singapore to the last leaf. Issue heavily discussed and commented on by the Rubáiyát collectors, which alternates between ornamentation, symbolism and esotericism due to the oriental and art nouveau character of the illustrations. The second sheet with a monogram 'WGS' William George Stirling. Sheet 29 with hand-blacked over-painting of the symbolic genitals of the female figure. Irregular sun fading to the the covers, foxing to the end papers, beyond which the sheets used are a superior quality and are in Fine condition. Member of the P.B.F.A. Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám.
