First printing of the official raport on captain Freycinet's voyage. He sailed from Toulon on 17 September 1817 in L'Uranie with his wife Rose who secreted herself aboard, and…who wrote a separate account of the voyage. After refreshing at the Cape of Good Hope and Mauritius he landed at Shark Bay on 12 September 1818 where he set up an observatory, thoroughly surveyed the inlets and the coastal districts and removed the plate left by Willem de Vlamingh, which he had found and re-erected in 1801. He then sailed north to Timor. His accounts and description of the landscape and life and customs of that and other islands in the East Indies captivated the attention of people in Europe much more than his Australian reports, and a widespread interest developed in the expedition. Leaving Timor on 27 November he sailed via the Moluccas, the Carolines, the Marianas, and the Sandwich Islands and reached Port Jackson on 19 November 1819, the scientists on board adding constantly to their store of information on hydrography, botany, cartography and anthropology. After spending Christmas ashore, they sailed on 26 December and, falling in with the westerlies, set a course for Cape Horn.On 13 February 1820 L'Uranie was wrecked on the Falkland Islands" the scientific records and notes were saved before the vessel foundered, but 2500 of the 4175 plant specimens were lost. Freycinet returned to France in November 1820 and died on 18 August 1842.

La rédaction de ces tomes est due à Magdeleine de Saint-Agy, qui indique avoir "complété" le cours de Cuvier, d'après la sténographie prise au cours des leçons au Collège de France. Ces deux volumes parus isolément se rencontrent rarement. Ces leçons de Cuvier commencèrent à la fin de l'année 1829, au moment où il réintégra sa chaire au Collège de France. Il s'agit de son tout dernier cours, qu'il laissa inachevé à sa mort. Le célèbre naturaliste, qui n'avait pas prévu d'en faire la publication, ne les avait pas non plus retranscrits dans leur totalité : confiant dans son talent d'orateur, il réalisait de "brillants discours (.) improvisés sur de simples notes et [qui] n'existent plus maintenant" (Sarah Lee, p. 226-228). Néanmoins, ses cours ont fait l'objet, dans les feuilletons du Temps, de comptes-rendus médiocres, qu'il réprouvait. Magdeleine de Saint-Agy annonce ainsi rattraper les erreurs des journaux, en prétendant avoir l'assentiment de Cuvier : "J'écrivis à M. le baron Cuvier. Le 10 avril 1830, il me fit l'honneur de me répondre : qu'il n'avait aucun motif personnel d'empêcher que je publiasse ses leçons; mais qu'il faudrait éviter la foule d'anachronismes et d'altérations de noms d'auteurs qui s'était glissée dans les articles des journaux; car autrement mon travail serait peu utile" (préface du rédacteur, tome Ier de l'Histoire des sciences naturelles, 1841, p. I). Condición: Bon. 2 vol., [4]-351 + [4]-440 pp. Fortin, Masson & Cie, 1843, in-8, 2 vol, [4]-351 + [4]-440 pp, Veau vert de l'époque, dos à faux nerfs et fleuronné, plaque romantique à froid sur les plats et filet d'encadrement doré, tranches marbres, Édition originale de ces deux tomes qui feront partie de l'Hi…stoire des sciences naturelles, depuis leur origine jusqu'à nos jours, chez tous les peuples connus, en cinq volumes (Paris, Fortin & Masson, 1841-1845) : ils en forment la troisième partie, qui sera publiée en 1845 en tant que tomes IV et V. La rédaction de ces tomes est due à Magdeleine de Saint-Agy, qui indique avoir "complété" le cours de Cuvier, d'après la sténographie prise au cours des leçons au Collège de France. Ces deux volumes parus isolément se rencontrent rarement. Ces leçons de Cuvier commencèrent à la fin de l'année 1829, au moment où il réintégra sa chaire au Collège de France. Il s'agit de son tout dernier cours, qu'il laissa inachevé à sa mort. Le célèbre naturaliste, qui n'avait pas prévu d'en faire la publication, ne les avait pas non plus retranscrits dans leur totalité : confiant dans son talent d'orateur, il réalisait de "brillants discours (.) improvisés sur de simples notes et [qui] n'existent plus maintenant" (Sarah Lee, p. 226-228). Néanmoins, ses cours ont fait l'objet, dans les feuilletons du Temps, de comptes-rendus médiocres, qu'il réprouvait. Magdeleine de Saint-Agy annonce ainsi rattraper les erreurs des journaux, en prétendant avoir l'assentiment de Cuvier : "[J'écrivis] à M. le baron Cuvier. Le 10 avril 1830, il me fit l'honneur de me répondre : qu'il n'avait aucun motif personnel d'empêcher que je publiasse ses leçons; mais qu'il faudrait éviter la foule d'anachronismes et d'altérations de noms d'auteurs qui s'était glissée dans les articles des journaux; car autrement mon travail serait peu utile" (préface du rédacteur, tome Ier de l'Histoire des sciences naturelles, 1841, p.
