Presents, for the very first time, Joseph Sterling's "Age of Adolescence". Selections from the great photographer's breakthrough Series. Its debut release, preceding the book by a full year, it is one of the best photographic records of The American Teen-ager. "This Age sparkles with the promise of what's to come, hides its insecurities under the cover of bravado, and trembles with excitement about the here and now. From 1959 to 1964 (arguably the Adolescence of America itself), Joseph Sterling photographed teenagers, hanging out after school, at drive-ins, in fast cars. As Sterling himself defined it, 'the world of the adolescent is totally interlaced within itself and incapable of freeing itself. It whirls, rolls, and engulfs what it is allowed to engulf' "(Publisher's blurb). The "Age of Adolescence" shows American kids to be both playful and serious, friendly and menacing, cheerful and pensive. Some images anticipate the work of many contemporary photographers without their necessarily being aware of it. Their remarkable simplicity and effortless grace have re-appeared in so many images of young people ever since. Still, few photographs have the timeless appeal as Joseph Sterling's work. Closely identified with the Institute of Design (ID), Sterling has done work characterized by the technical perfection and formal experimentation identified with the Bauhaus-inspired Institute. Here, he lets go, and the result is simply wonderful. Sadly, the book itself was also the last published by Sterling, who died unexpectedly on November 12, 2010. An absolute "must-have" title for Joseph Sterling collectors. This title is a contemporary art photography classic. This is one of few copies of the Exhibition Catalog still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Copies available online have serious flaws. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A scarce copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with duotone plates. One of the finest American photographers of our time. A fine copy. Folded for mailing, else fine. The English publisher and editor Sir Rupert Charles Hart-Davis (1907-1999) founded the publishing company Rupert Hart-Davis Limited in 1946. Praised for the quality of its publications, the firm eventually lost money as Hart-Davis refused to cater to the public taste and he was forced to relinquish control of the company. Hart-Davis went on to author the biography Hugh Walpole and edited the "Collected Letters of Oscar Wilde" as well as the "Lyttelton/Hart Davis Letters".

Earth First! is a group of radical environmentalists that formed in the American Southwest in the spring of 1980, founded by Dave Foreman, Mike Roselle, Howie Wolke, Bart Koehler, and Ron Kezar, among others. Earth First! quickly came to national attention with their "cracking" of Glen Canyon Dam activist stunt, which was performed and filmed in the spring of 1981. Edward Abbey is considered to be the "literary father" of the group. "Earth First! is the beginning of the new, bold environmental movement. And 'Earth First! The Radical Environmental Journal' is its voice" (Dave Foreman, Editor). Rear cover half-page illustration by Lone Wolf Circles dated '88 is untitled and depicts a ranch hand herding a large group of branded cattle in front of mountain peaks, above which shows, in a dreamy puff of clouds, some of the much wilder and disappearing Western animals: a buffalo, a wolf, a fox, a wolverine. Cover story by Howie Woke is entitled "Stop the Forest Service!" This title is a contemporary art photography classic. As far as we know, this is the only such double-signed copy of the Exhibition Catalog available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Joseph Sterling and Keith F. Davis did NOT sign most copies of the catalog. Copies available online have serious flaws. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. She… has two great big black breasts that are constantly lactating love. . . For $25.00 you get the Fertile. . . package which includes a lifetime (either yours of ours) subscription to Fertile. . . Published in five issues between 1982 and 1991, Vaginal Davis important and immensely influential queercore zine, Fertile. La Toyah Jackson Magazine, was her most significant publication. While working at UCLA s Placement & Career Planning Center, she was permitted to use their Xerox machine to print and produce issues of Fertile. There is no record of the how many of each issue she created, but it is clearly a very small number. They highlighted the drag scene in LA and, as such, were pioneering and rare. She called her style as terrorist drag in the Los Angeles punk scene. Davis has finally ascended to highly visible and notable stature in the art world with her first major solo exhibition in the U. S. at MoMA PSI entitled Vaginal Davis: Magnificent Product which runs from October 9, 2025 - March 2, 2026. Although not billed as a retrospective, it does showcase art from the five decades of her career, including installations, sculptures, paintings, audio works and, of course, the zines. It has been lauded by articles in the Art in America, NYT, ARTnews, Hyperallergic, Los Angeles Times, et al. In the words of Daniel Larkin, in his article on Davis in the October 9, 2025 issue of Hyperallergic, Vaginal Davis was The Fairy godmother of the Lost Angeles queercore scene, she brought gender-bending to the punk and hardcore music scenes of LA and New York in the 1970 and 80s before further establishing herself as an artist. In her review of the MoMA PS1 exhibition, McKenzie Wark in an Art in America article says that Davis is one of the leading artists of her generation. This, the Paris Issue , is not dated but likely was published in 1989 based on a small internal ad which states We re celebrating our 1st Anniversary on Sept. 9, 1989. . . It is very bright with tiny areas of soil, else near fine with only light wear. Rare: OCLC lists fewer than 8 libraries worldwide that have any of the five issues of Fertile.

It contains military histories, news on current campaigns (particularly the conflicts with Napoleon l's France on the Iberian Peninsula), biographies of prominent officers, lists of promotions, essays on the art of war, correspondence and, oddly in volume seven is Voyage Down the Rhine From Mentz to Holland by "the Late Mrs. Radcliffe, Authoress of The Mysteries of Udolpho, etc." When this was issued Ann Radcliffe was to live for another ten years. There are other, but less interesting, anomalies, such as a printing of Voltaire's Life of Peter the Great, etc. .Ownership signature in volumes one through four and nine of Sir Charles Chichester (1795-1847) who "was reputed one of the best regimental commanding officers in the British army" - DNB. He explains that while he longs 'for some of the Blunts', his daughter is getting married that June, and he is 'saving up for that'.
