Añadir al carritoHardcover. v, 87, [3] p.; 19 cm. (Starr, A Baptist bibliography R928, D573) Colored pencil marks on title-page and pages 82-83. At end, unpaged: Appendix A. Churches that have sprung from the church at King's Road Reading -- App. B. Ministers and missionaries who were menbers of the church -- App. C. Deacons and elders of the church. -- `At length the [Civil] war is over and the times begin to settle. But, alas! that opportunity came not. The Protector died in 1658, and with his death liberty swooned away. A blank of 22 years follows the code of regulations we have quoted, broken only by eight lines in 1660 recording a case of discipline for "Idelnesse and ffalse accusing a brother"; and four pages are again left vacant asthough to reserve space for filling in the history.'(p. 11) -- `The monthly Church meeting Jan 18th, 1779, was stirred by a controversy concerning long hair. "A conversation arose between brother Stevenson and many members respecting the wearing of long hair and curled hair; and it rose to such a pitch that brother Stevenson charges the whole Church and pastor as being guilty of sin in not suppressing it, but encouraging it. Therefore the Church were unanimously of opinion that he be reproved for such a charge; but he still persisting in his resolution, the Church were of opinion that he should be withdrawn from, and it was accordingly put in execution. N.B. there were only 2 men members in the whole Church who wore their hair tyed."' (p. 46) Good vine-patterned gray-brown cloth, most of spine chipped away. …
