Hard Cover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. Dust jacket unclipped in a clear protective sleeve. Illustrated boards. No ownership inscription. Rock climbing is a fast-growing sport and more and more people each year are being drawn towards this most exacting and exciting pursuit. This book is a celebration of the diversity and challenge of rock climbing in Britain. David Jones is both a highly-experienced climber and an outstanding photographer; he has compiled some dramatic and highly original shots in this book. Over 100 full-page, colour, action shots of climbs all over Britain, from Lands End to the North of Scotland, illustrate ascents from easy to extreme. Numerous classics are included from the traditional Napes Needle to the breathtaking The Bells, The Bells, as well as many relatively unknown climbs; a detailed description of each is given. All the various forms of rock climbing are covered including: leading, soloing, bouldering and climbing walls. There are also chapters dealing with the history of the sport, the gear and suggested training programmes. The necessity of close attention to fitness, safety and to mastering techniques is strongly emphasised. With its spectacular and quite exceptional illustrations, Rock Climbing in Britain will appeal both to the most proficient climbers and to those just starting out. Size: 4to. Numerous Colour & b/w Illustrations / Photographs (ilustrador).…

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition, Illustrated Edition. The sole UK printing published by The Golden Cockerel Press, Waltham Saint Lawrence in 1925. 2 Vols. set. Number '195' from a limited edition of only 450 copies. Illustrated with 42 woodcuts by David Jones (many hand-coloured) and 27 initials by Eric Gill. Bound in the publisher's cream linen and black cloth with spines lettered in gilt. Very Good+ or better copies with light edge wear and traces of rubbing to the black cloth as often encountered. The black cloth is notoriously fragile. Offsetting to the end-papers and some light age spotting in places. Many pages remain uncut as issued. Both copies are from the library of Eric Kennington and bear the stamp of 'Kennington, Homer House, Ipsden, Oxon' to the front end-papers. A beautiful fine press edition of Jonathan Swift's enduring satirical 18th-century novel being the first Golden Cockerel Press book with the artist and polymath David Jones' illustrations. Many of the illustrations are hand coloured. Eric Gill provided the cuts for the Initials. The volumes are reproduced from the text of the Henry G. Bohn edition of 1864 under the careful supervision of Robert Gibbings after Hal Taylor's death in 1925. A charming production that weaves vignettes of the story's protagonist and narrator, Gulliver, through his several unusual voyages. Eric Kennington R.A. was an English sculptor, artist and illustrator, and an official war artist in both of the world wars. As a war artist, Kennington specialised in depictions of the daily hardships endured by soldiers and airmen. In the inter-war years he worked mostly on portraits and a number of book illustrations. The most notable of his book illustrations were for T. E. Lawrence's Seven Pillars of Wisdom. Kennington was also a gifted sculptor, best known for his 24th Division War Memorial in Battersea Park, for his work on the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon and for the effigy of Lawrence at Wareham in Dorset. He resided at Homer House, Ipsden for many years. Both books are protected in Mylar archival covers. A scarce set and more-so with such a wonderful association. 2026 marks the 300th anniversary of the first publication of 'Gulliver's Travels'. More images available on request. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact. Jones, David (ilustrador).…

Hardcover. Condición: Very good. First printing, sixteenmo size, 87 pp. The Saint Dominic's Press, founded by Harry (Hilary) Douglas Clarke Pepler, flourished at Ditchling, Sussex, from 1916 to 1936. The first home of the Press was "a disused stable", with a hundred-year-old Stanhope hand-press which supposedly had belonged to William Morris. Pepler endeavored to do everything possible by hand, believing that such would both produce the best results and also be a "more individual or 'humane'.product". He therefore "preferred the handpress to the machine, handmade to machine-made paper, and handset founder's type to the products of typesetting machines." ___DESCRIPTION: Bound in quarter-cloth silver paper boards with "Desmond Chute engraving of St Dominic on front board. Title page engraving Dominican Friar (E48) by David Jones." Printed by hand on a Stanhope Press; sixteenmo size (5.9" x 4.6"), pagination: [1-3] i-ix [x-xi] 1-62 [1 page blank, colophon]. ___CONDITION: Volume is very good overall, with a strong, square text block and solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; front and rear silver boards have a slight mottled loss of color, the corners are bumped and rubbed; please note this copy is missing the glassine dust-jacket called for in the bibliography. ___CITATION: Saint Dominic's Press Bibliography, no. A173; ; note that the quotes and much of the introductory information from "Three Private Presses" by Brocard Sewell. ___POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please inquire for details. ___Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB, and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell.
