Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the evolution of taxation as a socio-economic phenomenon, particularly in the US, across several centuries. Focusing on the American experience, the author traces the historical roots and modern-day manifestations of tax systems, highlighting the interplay of political, economic, and social factors in shaping tax policy. The author contends that taxation systems are not merely technical mechanisms but rather reflect the moral and ethical values, as well as the political and economic priorities, of a given society at a particular moment in time. Drawing examples from a wide range of historical periods and countries, this book endeavors to demonstrate how taxation has been used as a tool for social engineering, economic development, and political control, offering a comprehensive and thought-provoking exploration of the complex relationship between taxation and society.
