Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. Patricia Davey (Jacket design) Ilustrador. First UK Edition. First impressions of the first UK edition, published separately in 1963 and 1966. Translated from the French into English by Philip Thody. Dustwrapper designs by Patricia Davey. ***CARNETS 1935-1942: Very good in blue cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. The gilt is still nice and bright, having been protected by the dustwrapper. The boards are clean and unmarked, without any scuffs, rubbing or creasing - just slight creasing to the top and tail of the spine. Corners sharp. Top edge of page block stained red by the publisher, and still very bright and clean. Page block edges clean. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Internally the book is also very good, with clean pages - just a neat ownership name in ink to the front free endpaper. None of the usual foxing to the endpapers, and no internal foxing. No creases or tears. Pages beautifully clean. No creases or tears. ******In a very good colour-printed dustwrapper, which has been corner price-clipped, with a scuff tear where a price sticker has been removed at the bottom of the flap. The dustwrapper is largely complete, with just some slight loss and rubbing at the top and bottom edges of the spine, and with a 3cm closed tear with associated creasing at the top edge of the back panel near the spine. The edges of the dustwrapper are slightly creased and rubbed, especially to the edges of the spine, and there is some discolouration to the back panel, which is white, and which is marked and browned with age. The spine of the dustwrapper is not faded at all and retains the dark maroon colour. ***222mm x146mm. 153 pages including Biographical Note, Appendix A: Newspaper Articles published by Camus between 1938 and 1940, Appendix B: Plays performed by the Theatre du Travail, later the Theatre de l'Equipe, between 1935 and 1939, List of abbreviations, Notes on the Introduction, Notes on the 'Carnets'. ***CARNETS 1942-1951: Very good in variant red cloth-covered boards with silver titles to the spine. The silver remains nice and bright. Cloth clean and unmarked. Head and tail of spine slightly creased. Corners sharp. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Internally the book is also very good, with clean pages - just an old pencil price on the front free endpaper. Paper stock slightly tanned. No internal foxing. Small nicks and creasing to the top of p.73/4 and a vertical crease to the rear free endpaper (please see scans). ***In a very good colour-printed dustwrapper which has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of 30s. net. The dustwrapper is complete, but please note there is some insect damage to the bottom edge of the front flap and top edge of the back flap with some edge loss (please see scans). The back panel is slightly marked with a circular indentation mark. The spine is unfaded. ***222mm x146mm. 212 pages including Biographical Note, Notes on the Introduction, Notes on the 'Carnets'. ***'From 1935 until his death, Albert Camus kept a general literary diary which he called his Carnets. There, he noted ideas for future works, extracts from books he had read, conversations overheard in the street, and reflections on travel, death, loneliness and art'. The Carnets are translated in a complete and unabridged from the original French edition based directly on the manuscript copy which Camus himself had made before his death. The Carnets are an invaluable addition to the other volumes of Camus' work at present available in translation. (Quote taken from the front flap of Carnets 1935 - 1942) ***'Albert Camus, born 7 Nov 1913 - died 4 Jan 1960, was a French philosopher, author, and journalist. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature at the age of 44 in 1957, the second youngest recipient in history.' (Wiki) ***A nice set of the first UK editions of 'Carnets 1935 - 1942' and 'Carnets 1942 - 1951' - of interest to collectors of the work of Albert Camus, and twentieth century literary first editions.
