Founded in 1927 by Princeton University graduate Eugene V. Connett III, The Derrydale Press published several series of outdoor books for North American audiences during the first half of the 20th century. It was the only publishing house in the world devoted exclusively to sporting books.…

The author addresses the wives of the hunting man with these words of caution. "If you, dear lady, are at breakfast with your husband and/or brother and/or son, and the male creature whom you cherish remarks casually, "You know, I've been thinking about it and I don't see why we should keep on hunting at Grandacres. We have just as good country right here at home as they have, and they're forty miles away. I've pretty nearly decided to collect a small pack of hounds and set up for ourselves!".
