Hamilton Wright Mabie (1846-1916) was an influential American essayist, critic, and editor whose work shaped early 20th-century approaches to children's literature and moral education. As a long-time editor at The Outlook, Mabie promoted accessible literature for young readers and curated numerous anthologies that blended storytelling with cultural enrichment. His editorial leadership defined The Young Folks' Treasury as one of the most respected juvenile collections of its era.

Wade; series edited by Hamilton Wright Mabie and Edward Everett Hale. New York: The University Society, Inc., 1909. Large 8vo, richly illustrated with color plates (including protected frontispiece), halftones, and diagrams. Original publisher's decorative brown cloth with gilt-and-black stamped pictorial panels to spine and front board; illustrated Art Nouveau endpapers. Volume VIII of this celebrated 12 volume educational set surveys the scientific and technological revolutions of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Includes sections on primitive and modern locomotion, the motor vehicle, the flying machine, the gyroscope, wireless telephone and telegraphy, early telephone science, sound transmission, and additional essays by Alfred Russel Wallace, Ray Stannard Baker, Elisha Gray, and Herbert T. Wade. Illustrations include color plates (tissue-guarded), photographs of inventors such as Thomas Edison, and diagrams of emerging technologies. Edition/Printing: Copyright page dated 1909 with no later printings stated, consistent with the earliest issue of the original 1909 Young Folks' Treasury set. Daniel Edwin Wheeler served as editor for this volume, specializing in science and early technology for lay and youth audiences. Herbert T. Wade, assistant editor and scientific writer, contributed extensively on topics related to physics, communication technology, and mechanical invention.
