Where the book weighs m…ore than 1 Kilo increased charges will be quoted. 1894 Previously known as Richard Smith and Co, the Lytham Shipbuilding and Engineering Co was set up in February 1894. It was based on the Ribble estuary to the East of Lytham at Lytham Creek. During the 1800s the yard made shallow-draft river craft which were sent in pieces and rebuilt at their destination. In addition, the yard made a variety of sternwheel, quarterwheel and tunnel propulsion river boats, barges and tugs. 1912 Constructed a steam launch for the British East Africa Railway which later featured in the film African Queen. WWI The yard made three "Saint" class naval tugs, smaller tugs, ammunition barges, telegraph repair ships and other small craft for the Navy. It also began making British coasters. 1920s The yard focussed on making river craft for West African and the Congo. In the 1930s the yard was affected by the Depression and only launched a few ships during this time. WWII The main output was fourteen water carriers for Dockyard use, naval steam lighters, landing craft and coasters. Ref B4.

Too many items to list individually but some of the many highl…ights include ;- Signed and specially bound copies of his own two books;- his own copy of Barron's "History of the Ribble Navigation" 1938 ;- 16 Port Authority volumes of "Borough of Preston Proceedings" 1883 to 1901 - complete with folding plans and much on the docks (spines worn) ;- an amazing collection of photographs in six albums and loose (original and copies) all depicting life and shipping on the Port of Preston and those involved in creating and running it. All labelled by Dakres and several used in his book "The Last Tide". ;- a particular highlight being 3 large original panoramic views of the Dock in its early days, aswell as two enlarged mounted views of the Docks in the 1960's. In addition there are glass slide views showing the digging out of the Dock basin and Original Bills of Sale (1928 & 1936) for ships purchased by the Port Authority and many Port of Preston, Ribble Navigation and Preston Corporation journals , reports and correspondence. Also included is a Rare original "Chart of the Ribble from the Admiralty Survey by Captain Belcher R.N. with a Section of the River from the North Union Railway Bridge to the Striped Buoy off Lytham showing the Improvement of the Navigation proposed by Robert Stevenson and Son Civil Engineers, Edinburgh. 1837."
