He was appointed Editor of the Sunday Pictorial at the early age of twenty-four by Cecil Harmsworth King, Northcliffe's controversial nephew. He became Chairman of the Daily Mirror group of papers and eventually succeeded King in an explosive situation as Chairman of the world's biggest publishing enterprise, the International Publishing Corporation.He tells of the conflict, occasionally brutal, between the personalities of the turbulent tabloid Press. He relates his inside story of the rise and fall of Cecil King, of King's duel with Harold Wilson, of his public demand for Wilson's dismissal as Prime Minister, and of the dismissal later the same month of King himself by his own colleagues.
