Warga (1938 - 1994) was an author and foreign correspondent best known for his entertainment reporting. President John F. Kennedy created the VISTA, or Volunteers In Service To America, program in 1964 to provide support to low income communities by utilizing skilled volunteers. It was conceived as a domestic counterpart to the international PeaceCorps program and eventually became part of AmericCorps in 1993. While it still exists today, its funding is threatened under the Trump Administration and its future remains unknown.
