This present work Kalanirnaya with the Dipika (commentary) of Muktisvaracarya is a prose form of the mid-17th century or a little earlier. Kalanirnayadipika deals with only mora of Sanskrit. It emphasizes on the difference in the utterance of vowels, consonants and also in pause. It highlights the scientific basis of the structure of the Sanskrit language. Kalanirnaya text and Dipika (commentary) both are critically edited here. The handy introduction may be helpful to get a brief idea about Sanskrit Phonetics. Translation of the text has also been provided. It would be a great help for further study to those scholars who are interested in the field of Siksa.

This book introduces, edits, and translates the two earliest texts of the hathayoga tradition, the Amrtasiddhi and the Amrtasiddhimala (which survives only in Tibetan translation). Basing their study on a bilingual manuscript, an extremely rare phenomenon, the authors argue that the origins of hathayoga are found in an eclectic tantric Buddhist milieu, probably active in the second half of the 11th century CE. The texts provide fundamental and later very influential teachings on the nature of the yogic body, psycho-physical practices centered on manipulating bindu, the types of practitioners, and much more. The book is addressed primarily to scholars, but will also be of interest to students and practitioners of yoga.

Brhatpakavali (Massive and markable model on medicinal cookery) is an exceptional ayurvedic text book authored by physician of modern era Sriyuta Gangaprasada Sarma. Author himself collected 71 massive medicinal formulation based on paka from different good old classical texts of Ayurveda. Distinct feature of the text is, all formulations has multiple drugs, actions and benefits. It is very important to note that all formulations are paka based Avaleha, Guda, Sarkara, Rasakriya, Khanda, Phanita and Guggulu preparations. Such a paramount text has been translated to English systematically with the consideration of multiple angles of literary research. Present translated book has two components grossly. First component deals with prologomenon on Brhatpakavali and persuation on Paka which gives brief outline about the text where as the second component deals with the english translation of 71 formulations systematically one after another. Idiosyncratic approach towards each formulation has been named as paramarea. After completing the translation of each formulation, translators viewed the formulation through the eyes of literary research and came up with productive inputs. The present paramount literature if used by the fraternity, students, physicians, scholars and researchers of Ayurveda then the efforts of author and translators becomes triumphant.

Glossary. Vadanyaya is an important work by Dharmakirti on the theory of debate. The work is devoted to the rules of victory and defeat in debate. Dharmakirti has used the Nyaya account of debate, not only as a purvapaka, a position to be refuted, but also, at least partly, as a raw material for reconstruction. His criticism of Nyaya is not purely destructive but it has a constructive aspect also. He gives his own classification of nigrahasthanas along with their definitions, in the first half of his work. In the second half he devotes his work to the criticism of Nyaya classification of nigrahasthanas.

The three works presented in this volume are hitherto unpublished texts of great significance for the early history of tantric Vaisnavism, and we have grounds for supposing that they are older than any hitherto published Vaisnava Tantras. They preserve archaic elements not found in other Pancaratra works, such as Vaisnava brahma-mantras styled after the Pasupata ones, and the veneration of eight heroes of the Vrsni clan, as well as of the pentad of Varaha, Narasimha, Trivikrama, Vamana and Vasudeva. Their ritual makes profuse use of Vedic mantras, one of them even requiring the installation of Vedic hymns (rather than tantric mantras!) chosen from each of the ten mandalas of the Rgveda in every image of Visnu. In a spirit rare in the Vaisnava traditions of the second millennium, these scriptures call on devotees to identify Brahma, Visnu and Siva. They thus present a picture of Tantric Vaisnavism in the first millennium AD as imbricated with Saivism and Brahmanism and tell us much about the early history of tantrism and of Hinduism in general. The first and third of these texts are transmitted to us in a single palm-leaf manuscript dated to Nepal Samvat 147 (1027 AD), and the second in a slightly newer and undated one, both from the treasure trove of the National Archives, Kathmandu. This volume contains a first edition of these texts with a detailed introduction, including an English synopsis, along with text-critical notes and indices, as well as facsimiles of the manuscript leaves.

The history of Sanskrit grammar has largely been dominated by the work of Panini and his followers, while the history and contributions of other Sanskrit grammatical schools remain under their shadow and are little known. The present work, a first critical edition of two extracts from the Sumatipanjika (1.1 and 1.4), a commentary by the Buddhist author Sumati (10th cent.) on the grammatical work of Candragomin, founder of the eponymous Candra school of grammar, goes some way to filling in this gap. The text, presented in a critical edition followed by a diplomatic one, is based on three manuscripts (two from Nepal and one from Bengal) dating from between the 15th and 16th centuries and written in Newari script.

The Vaiyakaranasiddhantabhusana, also known as the Vaiyakaranabhusana, is a commentary on the great 17th-century grammarian Bhattoji Diksita s Vaiyakaranamatonmajjana, written by Bhattoji s nephew Kaundabhatta. It is one of the most important texts of the late Paninian grammatical tradition on questions of semantics. The main intention of Kaundabhatta s commentary is to refute objections raised by proponents of the two rival systems of Logic (Nyaya) and Exegesis (Mimamsa) on various aspects of semantics, and to establish the Grammarians views on these subjects. The Vaiyakaranasiddhantabhusanasara, an abridged version of the Vaiyakaranabhusana by the same author, is a popular work that was commented upon more than ten times. On the other hand, nobody so far has attempted to write a commentary on the Vaiyakaranabhusana itself. The present work contains the Vaiyakaranabhusana along with a commentary called Niranjani by Pandit Ramyatna Shukla and explanatory notes (Prakasa) by the editor. The edition was prepared by taking a 17th-century manuscript as a basis, and by comparing it with forty manuscripts from different parts of India, as well as with all four published versions, none of which can be regarded as a truly critical edition. The present volume contains the third part of the work, discussing the meaning of Sanskrit compounds (samasas).

The Saktisangama Tantra, edited by Dr. Benoytosh Bhattacharyya (1897-1964), the first Director of the Oriental Institute was published under the Gaekwad's Oriental Series in four volumes. Pub in 1978 Due to untimed death of Dr. Bhattacharyya, he could not complete the fourth volume and a detailed introduction he had promised to present after the completion of the entire work was wanting. The work then entrusted to Pt. Vrajavallabha Dwivedi, the then professor of Yoga and Tantra, Sampurnanada Sanskrit University, Varanasi. Prof. Dwivedi's erudite Introduction in Sanskrit of the work is appreciated worldwide.

Rites of expiation and reparation (prayascitta) may not seem central to the history of the Mantramarga, but they provide a fascinating angle from which to view the evolution of this broad religious tradition. Instead of focussing on the evolution and philosophical defence of Saiva doctrines, or on the examination of ritual practices and of theories developed to justify and shore up such practices, this study puts the spotlight instead on social dimensions of the religion. This book contains a first edition and translation of a South Indian compendium of Saiva expiation rituals compiled by Trilocanasiva, a twelfth-century theologian celebrated for his Siddhantasaravali, a metrical treatise on the Saivasiddhanta that is still traditionally studied in the Tamil-speaking South today. Trilocana does not reveal the sources from which he quotes, many of which are lost to us, but an earlier Northern treatise on the same theme from Malwa by a certain Hrdayasiva consists only in large labeled quotations, typically whole chapters, from those sources. A Nepalese palm-leaf manuscript kept in Cambridge that is dated to 1157 ad may be the earliest surviving codex to transmit Hrdayasiva's text and we have included a complete transcription of that manuscript as an appendix. A combined quarter-verse-index helps readers to navigate both Trilocana's and Hrdayasiva's works. Our introduction attempts to trace the social developments within the Saivasiddhanta that give context to the evolution of Saiva reparatory rites.

It is a commentary on the Vaiyakaranamatonmajjanacompiled by the great grammarian Bhattoji Diksita (17 th c.), and is written by Kaundabhatta, the nephew of Bhattoji. The main intention is to refute the objections raised by Naiyayikas and Mimamsakas on various aspects of Paninian semantics and to establish the grammarians' views on the subject. Vaiyakaranasiddhantabhuaanasara, an abridged version of the Vaiyakaranabhusana, also written by Kaundabhatta, is the more famous text with more than ten commentaries written on it. But nobody has so far attempted to write a commentary on the Vaiyakaranabhusana and though the text has been published four times from different places, none of them can be treated as a critical edition. The Vaiyakaranabhusana is being published here with the Niranjani commentary by Pandit Ramyatna Shukla, and critical notes (Prakasa) by the editor. The edition itself is prepared taking a 17th c. manuscript as base, and comparing it with 40 other manuscripts from different parts of India, and with printed versions. The present volume contains the first part of the work and is devoted to the meaning of roots and verbal suffixes which is at its heart.
