CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The Crippen diary comprises pages 220-282 and covers the period, August 7, 1861 to September 19, 1863. Crippin was a private in Co. C, 27th Illinois Infantry. He describes the Battle of Belmont, the Battle of Farmington, and that at Stone River. He also served in the Chickamauga Campaign, with the diary coming to an end in September, 1863. Records indicate Crippin died November 25, 1863 of wounds he received at Mission Ridge. REFERENCES: Dornbusch Ill #147.

This book clearly represents a tremendous amount of research…on this northern Michigan town in Antrim County in northern Michigan. There are many photos, maps, and illustrations throughout the text and a name index in the rear. Bound in the original publisher's blue cloth covers with silver and gilt spine and cover lettering. There is a corner crease to two pages and a light crease to the top corner of the front inner pastedown (the covers are not creased--this is probably a binder's erro). This is a nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings, no previous owner names and no bookplates. This research is unlikely to be repeated. ; B&W Illustrations, Photos, Maps; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 464 pages.
