During the first half of the 20th century a single strange of wire formed the only communication link between the developing north-west of Western Australia and the rest of the world. Morse code sent over this wire was the only way to send and receive messages in these remote and often inhospitable areas. The men who manned the post offices of the day were resourceful, handy and dedicated to keeping the vital communication line open in times of war, atomic bomb tests and natural disasters. Dot Dash to Dot Com is a collection of the reminiscences and anecdotes of the surviving post office men, Morsecodians and others who comprised this band of devoted pioneers.

Faint marks on foredges. Interior and binding are still very good. During the first half of the 20th century, Morse code formed the only communication link between the developing north-west of Western Australia and the rest of the world. A resilient band of post office professionals kept communication alive in the most remote and often inhospitable areas of the State. Knowledge of Morse code was a prerequisite to advancement for post office people, and most learnt from others with the skill. This was no easy task and usually involved many hours of practice. To qualify for advancement, postal clerks had to send and receive Morse code at 22.5 words per minute. This book is a collection of reminiscences and anecdotes of the post office men of the North-West.
