His office and his home were always open and he was never too busy to share his great learning and common sense. But he thought of himself as a naturalist. He often said he had lived three lives: First as a naturalist and explorer, second as a teacher, and third a minor prophet of democracy. Illustrated throughout with black and white photographs.
