Erste Ausgabe. - Garrison/Morton 2501; Dawson 1557; Pagel 67 (Babes):… 'Das erste ausführliche Lehrbuch über die Bakterien.' - Gemeinsam verfaßtes Grundlagenwerk des Franzosen Cornil (1837-1908) und des später lange in Rumänien wirkenden Babes (1854-1926), das in umfassender Weise den Kenntnisstand der noch jungen Wissenschaft der Bakteriologie mit ihren neuesten Entdeckungen repräsentiert. Babes, obwohl als zweiter Autor genannt, war zweifellos der bedeutendere von beiden. Er arbeitete bei Virchow und Koch in Berlin, bei Pasteur studierte er dessen Schutzimpfungsmethode gegen Hundswut. 1885 wurde er Professor der pathologischen Histologie an der Budapester Universität. 'Er studirte das Verhalten der Tuberkelbazillen zum Gewebe; er war einer der Ersten, welche im Urin des Lebenden Tuberkelbazillen fanden; er wies nach, das die Leprabazillen auf dem Wege der inneren Haarwurzelscheide die unversehrte Epidermis durchwandern' (H./H.). Cornil lehrte seit 1869 an der med. Fakultät der Universität Paris und wurde 1870 Arzt am Hôp. de Lourcine. Sprache: Französisch.
