Añadir al carritoNo Binding. Condición: Collectible-Fine. circa 1925. Publicity photo (5 x 7 inch) of his upper body with hands folded and printed signature across the bottom. Aged 10-12 in the photo, Jackie Coogan (1914-1984) was the most famous child actor in the silent films making over four million dollars in such films as THE KID (1921) and OLIVER TWIST (1922) and from the extensive advertising during the 1920s. He was famous for his pageboy haircut, oversize overalls and cap. His mother and step-father went through his money and Jackie had to sue them, only getting $126,000. This led to the famous California Child Actors Bill which forced the studios to set aside 15% of the child actors income. During hard times Charlie Chaplain helped him out with money. In WWII Jackie flew gliders in Burma. Later in life he became famous for his role of Uncle Fester in the TV show THE ADAMS FAMILY and various guest roles. He retired in the 1970s.

Añadir al carritoDraft script for the 1952 film. Copy belonging to an uncredited crew member, with brief annotations in manuscript pencil on the verso of the last page of text, and on a few pages. An unusual story for a low-budget Western: a tough woman gambler named Iron Mae McLeod (Windsor) runs a town where law states that men are illegal. The tough McLeod is soon caught in the lusty lasso of Woody Callaway (Rober), a handsome and persistent cowboy. The Poverty Row studio, Lippert Pictures, lasted nearly two decades (1948-1969), and would resurface as the production company for "Don't Do It" (1994). Notable films produced or distributed by Lippert include "Jungle Goddess" (1948), "I Shot Jesse James" (1949), forgotten films noir like "Radar Secret Service" and "Motor Patrol" (both 1950), Samuel Fuller's "The Steel Helmet" (1951), Sam Newfield's "Lost Continent" (1951), and Terence Fisher's classic Hammer noir, "Man Bait" (1952). Pages and wrapper Near Fine, bound with three gold brads. Hardy, The Western, p. 218. Okuda 486.

Añadir al carritoCondición: Good. Original photograph. 9.5 x 7.5 inches. "To David ". . . Signed by both. Glazed.John Leslie (Jackie) Coogan (October 26, 1914 - March 1, 1984) was an American actor who began his movie career as a child actor in silent film.HollywoodAs a child star, Coogan earned as much as $4 million, but the money was taken by his mother Lilian and step-father Arthur Bernstein for cocaine and heroin. He sued them in 1935, but only received $126,000. The legal battle did, however, bring attention to child actors and resulted in the state of California enacting the California Child Actor's Bill, sometimes known as the Coogan Bill or the Coogan Act. This is inscribed to David Bacon, the nephew of Max Bacon. Before becoming a character actor, Max Bacon was one of the most significant drummers in Britain during the 1920s and 30s. He wrote Max on "Swing" (1934). David was the proprietor of the Heywood Hill Bookstore in Mayfair, London, which still exists.

Añadir al carritoVintage borderless photograph of Jackie Coogan as Tom Sawyer by photographer Ray Jones, circa 1933, with a mimeo snipe, a studio stamp crediting photographer Jones, and a "1933" publication stamp on the verso. Coogan starred in two films for Paramount Pictures based on Mark Twain's classic 1876 novel "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer," "Tom Sawyer" in 1930 and "Huckleberry Finn" in 1931, both starring Coogan as Tom Sawyer, Junior Durkin as Huckleberry Finn, and Mitzi Green as Becky Thatcher. From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. Born in Wisconsin on January 1, 1901, Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s, and went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures in 1935, where he worked well into the 1950s. Born into a family of vaudevillians, Jackie Coogan was on the stage by age four and touring by five. Coogan appeared in over 50 films beginning at the age of three in 1917 until the year before his death in 1984. Spotted as a child by Charlie Chaplin while performing on stage, he was initially given a small part by Chaplin in "A Day's Pleasure" (1919), before starring the young actor opposite Chaplin in his 1921 classic "The Kid." By 1923 Coogan was one of the highest-paid stars in Hollywood, though by the beginning of the 1930s, the time of the "Tom Sawyer" films represented here, his career was beginning to wane as he grew older. His career wouldn't see a resurgence until 1950s when Coogan would frequently appeared on television, most famously as Uncle Fester on the 1964-1966 ABC comedy series "The Addams Family." 9.5 x 7.25 inches. Near Fine.
