Wagniskapitalinvestitionen sind aufgrund von fehlendem Kapital für Gründer/-innen und den hohen Renditemöglichkeiten für Investierende daher so wichtig wie noch nie. Auf der Seite der Investierenden sind besonders Business Angel und Venture-Capital-Gesellschaften aktiv. Sie versorgen die finanzierten Unternehmen nicht nur mit Kapital, sondern ebenfalls mit Know-how und einem Netzwerk, welches für ein möglichst schnelles Wachstum sorgen soll. Der Investmentprozess dieser beiden Akteure unterscheidet sich jedoch in einigen Punkten, da sie meist mit unterschiedlichen Interessen in die Unternehmen investieren.
