The company was bought by Lord Kylsant's shipping empire in 1928, his other companies included White Star Line, Shaw, Savill & Albion, and the Aberdeen Line. The name of the company was changed in 1928 to the Aberdeen & Commonwealth Line as the Aberdeen Line had been engaged in the Australian trade since 1840 and therefore had good associations with the public.
