Texte officiel du Code de Commerce, ratifié le 25 septembre 1807 par Napolé…on à Fontainebleau et appliqué à partir du 1 janvier 1808. Le Code de Commerce fait partie des trois grands travaux de Napoléon pour la réforme du droit en France; les autres sont Le Code Napoléon et le Code Pénal. "Le Code de Commerce de 1807 couronne les efforts constants déployés tout au long du XVIIIe siècle pour adapter et mettre à jour l'ordonnance de 1673 ou Code marchand dont les imperfections s'étaient assez vite fait sentir. Il fallut les retentissantes faillites de 1806 pour que le projet soit ressorti des cartons où il s'était fait oublier. L'Empereur, ému par le scandale que suscitèrent ces affaires frauduleuses, enjoignit au Conseil de se mettre aussi tôt à l'ouvrage. Le prestige du négoce était au plus bas, et les intérêts des commerçants n'étaient pratiquement pas représentés au Conseil d'État. La discussion au Conseil d'État s'engagea le 4 novembre 1806 et s'étendit sur près de neuf mois, occupant quelque soixante-huit séances. L'adoption définitive, puis la promulgation séparée de chacune des lois composant le Code de Commerce, s'échelonnèrent tout au long du mois de septembre" (Tulard). Très bel exemplaire, du tirage de luxe de format in-4, bien complet de la très détaillée Table des matières (sous la date de l'édition originale de 1807). Le Code (de l'édition de 1810) est entièrement interfolié. (inv 14294).
